Gear for Fly Fishing Belize:

Fly Rod : 8wt - 10wt  9ft to 9.5ft  The 8wt will cover almost everything you need for Bones to Permit and even some baby Tarpon.  Having a 10wt on the boat for days with stiff winds can be helpful.  The 10wt also comes in handy when you find large Permit or Tarpon up on the flats.

Fly Reels:  Saltwater reel that has at least 200 yards of 20lb backing for Bones and Permit.  250 yards of 30-50 for Tarpon is ideal.  Some of our favorite reels are Nautilus, Abel, Hatch and TFO.  You can't go wrong with any of these.

Fly Lines:  Weight forward, saltwater taper, floating tropical fly line will be needed to ensure your success on the flats.  Recommended fly lines include Scientific Angler Bonefish and Tarpon Taper or Rio Bonefish and Tarpon taper.

Leaders:

Bonefish - Tapered 10-12lb Leader  10ft-12ft long

Permit - Tapered 16-20lb Leader  10ft-14ft long

Tarpon - 30lb class tippet with 60, 80 or 100lb bite tippet 9ft long
